FAQs

How long does it take to get an estimate?

That depends on the size of the project. A large project could take 2-3 weeks while involving several subcontractors and materials suppliers. A small project could take a couple of days. The short answer to this question is – as quick as possible.

Do you charge to come to our house to talk about what we want?

We are happy to meet with you to discuss a new project, without charge. We would like to meet with you to discuss your ideas, desires, and requirements, and then make suggestions concerning how to achieve your goal.

What size of jobs does Wilson Building Company accept?

We do all sizes of jobs from a total renovation or addition, replacing a few windows, remodeling a bathroom, finishing a basement, or adding a 2nd floor. We are in the business to provide a complete home remodeling and additions service at whatever size of the project.

What are some remodeling ideas?

Before you head too far down the remodeling path, it’s a good idea to think through your wants and needs. Decide what changes you want to make. Ask yourself and other family members what you like and dislike about the house, and then create a prioritized list. Think about furniture placement, colors, lighting, and how you want to use the remodeled space now and in the future. Look at magazines and collect pictures of what you like. There are many sources today, of course especially on the internet, that will show you what other people have done to their homes and how they’ve made it work for them. Often when we arrive for an initial meeting with the family, they will have a folder or stack of magazine ideas that they’ve already considered and can communicate what it is that they want to achieve. It helps a lot. Or maybe you instinctively know what is needed and that’s ok too, because we have done many projects of many kinds and can listen to your ideas and can suggest to you a design solution.

Do we need to provide professional architectural drawings?

Depending upon the size and scope of the project, scaled drawings would be required for an addition to the footprint of the existing house, such as a kitchen or master bedroom addition, and also for a 2nd floor addition. To replace windows, doors, siding, or roofing shingles, for example, would not require a drawing.

How will you handle working around us since we will still be in the house while you work?

On most projects, the family continues living in the home. We are very attentive to the needs of the family in respect to keeping the work area clean, dry, and secure. Most of the time our work is done during business hours while the clients and their children are away at work or school. The repairs to the electrical and plumbing systems are done during this time. Throughout the workday our job sites remain clean and organized. Then, at the end of the workday the construction tools are stored, the building materials are reorganized, and the daily mess is cleaned to provide for the on-going comfort and security of the homeowner, and also to be ready and organized for the next workday.

Why remodel?

Remodeling your home can modernize the style, make it more comfortable, improve energy-efficiency and home functionality, increase the value of your home, and help with upkeep and maintenance. Remodeling is a sure investment in your home to ensure longevity, usefulness, and home value, not to mention how much more you and your family will enjoy your time at home.

If we don’t have an architect or draftsman, can you help us get our plans drawn?

Wilson Building Company has the ability to draft the architectural drawings for your project. We can match the existing construction and styling, or create a design that is unique to your vision. These drawings will be accepted and approved by any local municipality’s building department. We can also work with your architect’s drawings.

How long will the project take?

The size of the project will of course determine how long the job will take to complete. Most remodeling projects require multiple trades such as carpentry framing, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, drywall and painting. There are often modifications to structural walls and changes to windows and doors.

As a licensed contractor, we have seasoned professional craftsmen and subcontractors to handle all aspects of home remodeling. We are on your project every day, and you will be pleasantly surprised at the pace we get work accomplished.

When is it time to remodel?

Perhaps you’ve realized that the floor plan of your home doesn’t really work best for your family, and you simply need more room. A new kitchen, a new bathroom, repainting and refinishing the floors would make a big change. The reasons for remodeling are as varied as the projects we undertake.

Some of these include:

• Adding more space

• Upgrading cabinets, counters, kitchen appliances, and plumbing fixtures

• Creating a floor plan that’s customized for your lifestyle

• Improving energy efficiency with new windows and doors

• Building a new laundry room, walk-in pantry, mud room, or screened porch

• Increasing the equity and resale value of your home

Together, we can build the future now.
